US national security strategy signals shift in global approach—Russia

(MENAFN) Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated on Monday that the United States’ updated National Security Strategy reflects “a serious rethinking” of Washington’s global policies, signaling a possible move away from past hegemonic commitments and leaving room for continued collaboration on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that the latest strategy differs markedly from the 2022 version, recognizing that “American elites previously made grave miscalculations” by relying on a flawed “globalist model,” according to reports.

She emphasized that while it remains uncertain how fully the administration will implement the strategy, “the very recognition of the bankruptcy of the globalist model is telling.”

Zakharova highlighted that the strategy “for the first time officially questions” what Russia describes as NATO’s “aggressive expansionist dynamics,” and pointed out that the country is discussed in the context of broader European security without new calls for economic pressure or containment.

At the same time, she acknowledged that the strategy’s focus on achieving US “energy dominance” by limiting adversaries’ influence suggests Washington continues to aim to “push Russia out of global energy markets.”

Regarding Ukraine, Zakharova said the updated strategy includes “provisions that lay the foundation for continuing our joint constructive efforts with the Americans to find ways to achieve a peaceful resolution.”

She added that Moscow hopes the document will have a “sobering effect” on the European ‘war party,’ noting that recent US assessments align with Russia’s long-standing concerns over Europe’s stance.

Recent reports indicate that Washington has intensified diplomatic engagement with both Kyiv and Moscow as part of an effort to explore a potential ceasefire framework, while European governments remain apprehensive about pressure to accelerate negotiations amid ongoing instability on the frontlines.
