Iraq shows interest in procuring Pakistan’s JF-17 fighter jets
The talks took place during an official visit by Pakistan’s air force chief to Iraq, where he met with his Iraqi counterpart at air force headquarters. The discussions focused on expanding defense cooperation, with particular attention given to joint training initiatives, capacity development, and strengthening operational coordination between the two air forces.
During the meeting, Pakistan’s air force chief reiterated his country’s willingness to assist Iraq in areas related to training and institutional growth, underscoring a commitment to long-term professional cooperation.
The Iraqi air force commander, for his part, commended the professionalism and technological progress of the Pakistan Air Force and expressed interest in benefiting from its advanced training systems. According to the statement, "(He) expressed keen interest in JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and Super Mushshak trainer aircraft."
Separately, earlier in the week, Pakistan’s air force chief also held talks in Islamabad with the visiting air force chief of Bangladesh. During that meeting, the Bangladeshi side sought support for maintaining its aging aircraft fleet and integrating air defense radar systems to strengthen aerial surveillance capabilities.
Officials said Bangladesh also conveyed interest in the possible acquisition of JF-17 Thunder jets, along with accelerated delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft and sustained technical assistance over the long term.
