Trump Likely to Reject Iran's Hormuz Deal
According to media, Trump communicated his reservations during a Monday national security meeting focused on Iran, with one source indicating the president was unlikely to accept the proposal, which was transmitted to Washington within the past several days.
Trump's next course of action remained unclear, the report noted. US officials are said to be troubled by what they perceive as deep internal divisions within Iran's leadership and uncertainty over who ultimately holds authority to finalize any agreement.
Publicly, Trump has expressed reluctance to restart the US bombing campaign, which remains on pause following his decision last week to extend a ceasefire. The White House has disclosed little about the structure or trajectory of the ongoing diplomatic process.
"These are sensitive diplomatic discussions and the US will not negotiate through the press. As the president has said, the United States holds the cards and will only make a deal that puts the American people first, never allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon," assistant press secretary Olivia Wales told media.
